Amelia Hamlin responded to accusations of “blackfishing” after a sequence of images she shared on social media sparked controversy.
On Feb. 25, the mannequin shared a sequence of images of herself to Instagram. Within the pics, she is carrying her hair in an extended skinny braid, and her pores and skin tone seems a number of shades darker than in her different current images. She captioned the put up, “whiplash bought me like….”
Although the 19 yr previous’s feedback are actually turned off for this put up, she took to her Instagram Story to share that she obtained adverse feedback in regards to the images, which accused her of “blackfishing.” The time period “blackfishing” refers to when non-Black people use hair or make-up to create the look of sure options that make them look Black or extra racially ambiguous. On this case, it was Amelia’s darkened complexion that made some query her intentions.
